Activities

Each September, the children’s Altar Server Ministry invites all interested students in grades 5 through 8 to serve on Sundays, Holy Days, weekday masses funerals and weddings. Interested students are instructed in the duties and responsibilities of an altar server by the coordinator. The purpose of the Altar Server Ministry is assist the priest and congregation in the rituals of our Catholic faith, to support a student’s relationship with God and the Church, and to encourage service to the Sacred Heart community. As a school participating in the National Archery in the School Program (NASP), our students are permitted to participate in the State NASP tournament held in Columbus each year at the beginning of March. Our team of 24 students is made up of 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Try outs are conducted each fall. All necessary equipment is provided by the school.

Art classes are offered during school hours for our students. In addition, after school art enrichment is offered throughout the year. Children who attend these classes have the opportunity to explore a wide variety of art materials including but not limited to: paint, clay, paper mache, & fabric. Each session is approximately six weeks long and explores a theme. 

Band, offered by trimesters, is open to students in grades 4 through 8.  Both groups perform at Christmas and in late May. Instruments taught include flute, clarinet, alto sax, trumpet, trombone, french horn, and snare drum. The purpose is to enrich the musical interest of students and develop musician skills. The mission of Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. Boy Scouts of America is one of the largest youth organizations in the United States. Boy Scouting is a division of the BSA that is available to boys who have earned the Arrow of Light Award or have completed fifth grade, or who are 11 through 17 years old. The program achieves the BSA’s objectives of developing character, citizenship, and personal fitness among youth by focusing on a vigorous program of activities such as camping, canoeing, hiking, archery, fishing, rockets, rifling, high adventure, rock climbing, bicycling, backpacking, and serving others. Cub Scout Pack 967 is a vital component of the youth ministry of Sacred Heart and is dedicated to the development of the character, values and conscience in young boys. Cub Scout Pack 967 is one of the largest Cub Scout packs in Butler County. It is open to boys in grades 1 through 5 who want to be involved in the fun and excitement of Cub Scouts. The day school choir leads the singing during our school masses and is open to any interested student in grades 2 through 8. Choir members practice one day a week, afterschool, with the music director, Ms. Wallace and music teacher Ms. Kanaitis. The day school choir allows those students who enjoy singing the opportunity to strengthen their vocal abilities and leadership skills by performing regularly. There is no fee to join choir. The Drama Club begins meeting in the early fall once a week to learn and rehearse musical theatre productions. Throughout this process, children build their self esteem, increase their confidence, and gain team work abilities. The shows are performed on the school stage in the spring. Qualified eighth grade students are commissioned by the pastor each fall to serve as Eucharistic ministers for school and weekend Masses. Most continue in this ministry in their high school years and beyond.

Sacred Heart Girl Scout Troops are registered with the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio Council. Girl Scouts is open to all girls in grades K-8. Each Sacred Heart grade level has a troop guided by a trained volunteer leader. The mission of Girl Scouting is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Girl Scouts is a social activity where girls learn new skills, try a wide range of activities, earn awards, and learn about people and the world around them while having loads of fun. Aimed at empowering students to have an impact beyond school walls, this parent-led group of 6-8 grade students assists with various uplifting projects in the community.
